ABOUT ME
HELLO
My interest in graphic design started from studying a Level 3 Graphic Design course at Nottingham College. I was fascinated with how text and images can be used to create ideas. I really enjoyed studying photomontage artists and apply the technique to my own work. I ended up developing a passion for producing posters to raise awareness on social issues. I would always choose posters whenever my tutors asked what I wanted my final design to be. This was when I realised I had an interest in designing to raise awareness.
I did not consider university at this point. I wanted to look for graphic design jobs, but further build my design skills and experience. In the job centre, I bumped into the Prince's Trust staff members who were speaking to me about their development programme for young people. I discovered it included the opportunity to do two work placements, which made me want to participate. I produced posters to promote their team programmes to other young people, and one to help staff navigate a corporate bookshelf for the Nottingham Fire Rescue Service for my placements. I also got the opportunity to design a poster for an elderly care home to advertise a coffee morning myself and others arranged as a team, to help others in our community.
Afterwards, I did not know how to explore my career options. So, I asked a Futures advisor to help me and she encouraged me to consider a degree, as she said it will increase my chances in entering the industry. Therefore, after careful thought, I decided to apply for a foundation degree in graphic design at Confetti Institute of Creative Technologies in 2020. This is how I got to where I am.
I really like grainy monochrome photography, the visual contrast created by contrasting colour with it, looking at collage artists Eleanor Shakespeare, punk artists Linder Sterling and Jamie Reid and much more.
